An employee’s retrospect.

I have been an employee at Mountz’s west coast branch for just over two years. I don’t know how I should feel about the fact that my experience there could be described as a blurry alternation of lashings and pats on the back while being smuggled across paper-thin glass stretching into infinity, but I guess the horror of it all when I think about it now was really just me experiencing withdrawal back into The Real. This was my first job, and still is the only one I’ve had to this day not counting small-time floor and fence gigs. To say I was not prepared for it would be a weak credit to life’s occurrences. Sure, shit happens. Sometimes though you get the feeling that it is hailing on you.

Not since the first day on the job have I written a word about Mountz. I think now might be an alright time to share a little. There’s simply too much to say without cutting it right down to the most specific of instances, so I will try my best to get some of it out there when I have the time and recollection.

Kaiser (CA, USA).

Kaiser (CA, USA).

Kaiser is the name of a project I decided to start about a year ago. It is a one-piece blackened death/thrash outfit with a huge influence of Order from Chaos and numerous other pioneers of twisted death metal such as Demilich and Timeghoul. It is a metaphor, one that I can only hope to realize when I come together lyrically. For what can accurately be called a decade, I’ve always struggled to pinpoint exactly what I wanted to accomplish in music. Circles of influence and just being finicky in general have always stopped me from taking anything a step further toward substantiality than a convincing logo or a track list for a demo, even. It was all just very showy fluff if I can be honest with myself. At Kaiser’s infancy there is no way I could say that it is any different from any other idea of mine that never got off the ground, but being established musically and it having material prepared already leads me to believe that I will take it somewhere. My goal in the next 5 years is to have at least two demos self-released, a pair of 7”s, and a 12” all on analog-centric labels. And a hoodie.
